The Dodge A100 van was a compact van introduced in 1964. The A100 was branded a Dodge in the United States and a Fargo in Canada. The A100 was built with a compact, 90” wheel base. When the A108 Dodge van debuted in 1967, it had a 108” wheel base with more interior room. The larger size made it a popular choice for conversion into a camper van. TV fans of That 70’s Show may remember the Dodge A100 featured in the episode, “Red’s Last Day.”

There were five Dodge van engine sizes used during the production of the A100 and A108 models. From 1964 to 1966, a 2.8L Slant-6 engine was available.

This 170 cubic inch engine featured an inline, 6-cylinder design and produced 101hp.
A larger Slant-6 was available from 1964 to 1970, a 3.7L engine that used its 225 cubic inches of displacement to produce 145hp. The last of the Slant-6 Dodge van engine sizes was available in the last year of production. It was a 3.2L inline six-cylinder engine that achieved 125hp.

B-Series Dodge Van Engine Sizes

Chrysler didn’t build engines specifically for the B-Series Dodge Ram vans. Instead, all Dodge van engine sizes from this series were also used in other Chrysler products, mostly rear-wheel drive sedans.

Three of the Dodge van engine sizes were six-cylinder models. The first was a 3.7L Slant-6 with inline design used from 1971 to 1987. The 3.9L LA V6 engine was introduced in 1988. It was replaced in 1992 when Dodge debuted the 3.9L Magnum V6 that powered Dodge B-Series vans until 2003.

Chrysler also used small-block, V8 Dodge van engine sizes. The LA 318, a 5.2L engine was available from 1971 through 1991. The Magnum 5.2L engine was offered from 1992 to 2003 and the beefy Magnum 5.9L engine that produced 155hp was featured from 1993 through 2003.

Two big-block Dodge van engine sizes were popular with commercial buyers hauling heavy loads. The 6.6L V8 produced 190hp, and the 7.2L V8 made 195hp. Both engines were available from 1971 to 1978.

A 5.2L compressed natural gas (CNG) engine was available in some model years. Vans powered by the CNG engine were classified as Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicles by the EPA in 1999.
