Acura EL was a rebranded model that was sold strictly in the Canadian marketplace. The Acura EL was produced in two generations. The first generation was produced 1997 to 2000 and was closely similar to the Honda Civic. It had a D16 1.6l SOHC VTEC Engine that produced 127 hp at 7200 rpm. Because of its similarity, the Acura EL was a “luxury” version as the Honda Civic. The added features included a amber LED dash display, tachometer, power trunk, and 15 inch alloy wheels.

The second generation Acura EL was redesigned, and produced in 2001 to 2005. It came equipped with a D17 1.7l SOHC VTEC engine that produced 127 hp at 7200 rpm. Because the Acura EL came in a touring and premium trim package, and ABS anti lock braking system. Leather seats, spoiler, and the aero package included front and rear bumper lips. Like other Honda engines, the power to displacement ratio is high because of VTEC. Which stands for Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Lift Control.
