First introduced as a 2009 model, the Audi Q5 launched with a 3.2-liter V6 engine that produces 270 horsepower. A six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard. Two years later, Audi introduced the Q5 2.0T, which comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 211 horsepower. A new eight-speed automatic transmission became standard on the Q5 2.0T, while V6 models continued to utilize the six-speed automatic.

The 3.2-liter V6 was dropped for the 2013 model year and replaced with a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 in Q5 3.0T models. This new engine produces 272 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque and is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. 2013 also saw the introduction of the Q5 Hybrid, which pairs an electric motor with the 2.0-liter turbo to make a combined 245 horsepower.

The following year, the Q5 2.0T got a slight power increase to 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The Q5 3.0 TDI was also introduced, which features a turbodiesel 3.0-liter V6 that generates 240 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque.
