The North American versions of the E23 BMW 735i utilized a 3.4-liter variant of the M30 SOHC inline six-cylinder, often nicknamed the “Big Six” due to their prestige and positioning within the BMW hierarchy. Fitted with a catalytic converter and 8.0:1 compression, the M30B34 generated 182 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque. At the time, the M30B34 was the largest and most powerful 7 Series offered in the U.S. Outside of the North American market, the 252-horsepower 745i Turbo and the 282-horsepower South Africa-only 745i occupied the top tier in terms of power output. We have access to used BMW 735i engines with great warranty and prices only at Used Auto Parts Locators. In the E32 735i, BMW employed a revamped variant of the M30 engine, this time featuring a higher compression ratio of 9.0:1. In this form, the M30B35 produced 208 horsepower and 225 pound-feet of torque. In the North American market, the E32 735i would be the last 7 Series vehicle sold with an inline six-cylinder engine, as it was subsequently replaced by the 4.0-liter and 4.4-liter eight-cylinder engines in the successor E38 7 Series. BMW 735i engines have a reputation for being relatively long-lived if given the proper amount of maintenance and upkeep. These motors are usually available from most well-known engine brokers and dismantlers, although they are expected to be harder to find as time goes on. The youngest E32 7 Series is nearly 20 years old and as these vehicles age, used replacement engines will surely become harder for owners to find.
