The Chevy S-10 pickup truck that went into production in 1982 as an economy sized truck. The car started being conceptualized in 1972 and was originally made from chassis that was sourced from other general motors’ g-body class vehicles. GM wanted in on the compact truck market with the Mazda B2000, Mitsubishi pick up and the Isuzu Pup.

It went into official production in 1982 with the introduction of the first s-series trucks. In 1982, the four wheel drive version was added. This gave track width that was the same as that of the general motors’ h-body class subcompacts which gave 120 hp. The SUV versions of the same were introduced in 1983 and came as the S-10 blazer and the S-15 GMC Jimmy. The engine that was used in these trucks was the same as that which was used in the Cavalier, the 2.0 liter OHV l4 and was discontinued in 1984. The other engines that were put out of the market were the 1.9 liter SOHC engines and the 2.2 liter engines that were OHV derived. This left the iron duke engine, a 2.2 liter OHV l4, and a 4.3 liter v6 engine that was added in 1988. The 1992 engine came with 195 hp and 205 hp options.

The second generation models went into the market in 1994. This generation saw the exit of the 4-cylinder iron duke engines and the 2.8 liter 60 degree v6 engine. This saw the introduction of the Vortec 4.3 liter v6 engine. The used Vortec engine could also be used on the FWD general motors’ mid-size and compact platforms. These became the engines of choice for this generation. In 1998, the 2.2 liter l4 engine was refreshed and this year also saw the addition of airbags into the cars.

It is worth noting that there was an S-10 series made specifically for Brazil. This started out with the 5.3 Liter engine that has six valves but this was discontinued in 2004. This model also had a 2.8 liter diesel engine that gave 140 hp and a 2.4 liter engine with a flex fuel engine that is powered by a mixture of petrol and E-96h ethanol. This engine could give anything between 147 and 259 hp.
