The Chevy Suburban model has traditionally been one of General Motors’ most profitable vehicles. The vehicle has a long history of production beginning in 1934-35 and continuing till date, this automobile has survived many changes. The Chevy Suburban was basically a station-wagon-bodied model of the Chevrolet pickup truck. Chevy used engines of all types in this line.

The C-20 model of the Chevy Suburban was meant to be a pickup for commercial use and was introduced in the sixth generation of the Suburban model spanning from 1960-66. The engines included both I-6 and small-block V-8s. A 305-cubic-inch 60 degree V-6 was also available on GMC models. The 3/4-ton C20 was made available in 1960. The 1962 model used torsion bar front suspension, with trailing arm suspension rear. A coil-spring front suspension came in 1963; along with a new base engine, a 140 hp (104 kW) 230 in³ (3.8 Liter) I6, and an optional 165 hp (123 kW) 292 in³ (4.8 Liter) I6. Air conditioning and a 220 hp (164 kW) 327 in³ (5.4 Liter) V8 came in 1965. A new base motor finished the model in 1966 with a 155 hp (116 kW) 250 in³ (4.1 Liter) I6.

The second generation (1967-1972) C and K Suburban models were easily identified by the single door on the driver’s side door and two passenger-side doors. They were available in both 2WD and 4WD models.

Engines included the V6 (e.g., Chevrolet 292-cubic-inch I6, and GMC 305 cubic inch V6), and small-block V8s of the current model year (e.g., 283, 307, 327, 350, 400-cubic-inch V8s.) This series would also be the last to offer C-10 & C-20 panel truck models for commercial purposes, the last year being 1970. Used Chevy Suburban 20 engines can be located at Used Auto Parts Locators.

The third generation (1973–1991) C/K models of the Suburban came with 4-doors. The rounded 1970s body style remained largely unchanged for 19 model years – making this series the longest in production of any Suburban. Both 2WD and 4WD models, designated “C” and “K”, were offered, as well as one-half ton and three-quarter ton (“10” and “20” on the Chevy) models.
