GM made the Jimmy S-10 from the 1982 thru 1995. The Jimmy used engines made for a car as well as using a truck only design. An available engine was the 2.5 4 cylinder engine. The different between this engine used in the truck or SUV from a car engine was the starter mounting position. GM put the starter in a different location. The most economical engine was an Isuzu built 1.9 liter engine. This engine was a very good dependable engine, all aluminum and offered good performance.

An engine that failed horribly for the S-10 was the 2.0 liter engine. It was poorly built and had lots of issues which caused its demise shortly after coming into production. The diesel version also as with most other GM models for cars was a disaster. The 2.8 liter engine was also used in the Chevy Camaro and the Chevy S10 Blazer. The Celebrity 2.8 liter was totally different because it was a transverse mounted engine. Also, the later model Camaro used a multi-port fuel injected engine the S-10 Jimmy did not get.
