The Jeep Grand Cherokee was first produced in 1993 and ran through 1998. It used different engines depending on what the consumer wanted at the time of purchase. The most popular engine was the 4.0 liter 6-cylinder motor. It produced 190 hp and 225 lb-ft of torque. Emissions got stricter and from 1996-1998 the 4.0-liter power was downgraded to meet those standards. When the third generation Grand Cherokee hit the streets is being built from 2005-2010 and had 4 different engines that it could be configured with under the hood. The 3.7 liter V6 was introduced, it was cheap to buy and cheap on gas but expensive to repair. The 4.7 liter was next in line and had a new design but still offered less than desirable results. The 5.7 liter Hemi engine was a really rock solid engine producing more than 300 hp and it got the job done. The push rod design made it affordable and dependable. The Grand Cherokee SRT had a 6.1 liter Hemi with 420 hp and the same torque.

Jeep model the Wk2 came with a Pentastar 3.6-liter engine. Low maintenance and cost made this model a good choice for the budget minded buyer. The newer built 5.7 liter Hemi was an excellent choice offering power and reliability, a great middle of the road engine for sure, the top gun motor was the 6.4 liter SRT version, it pumps out 470 hp but is very expensive and really only good for street use.
