Mitsubishi Motors, Japan, produced the subcompact car with front wheel drive called the Mitsubishi Mirage in 1978 and the production went on till 2003. The more rounded third generation Mirage was introduced in 1987 in Japan. The basic car was a three door hatch back. But there were a four door sedan also. There was a choice of three engines. There was the basic 1.3 liter Orion engine, the 1.5 liter Orion engine as well as the 1.6 and 1.8 liter Saturn engines. There was also the 1.8 liter Sirius engine.

The fourth generation of Mirages arrived in the market in 1991. These cars have got much rounder shape in keeping with the trend at that time. There was a variety of engine options for these cars.
